Bus lore

By Lisa

An old scraggly-beard guy on the No. 12 says you can ride from Portland to Seattle on city buses, and it only takes four hours if you time it right. He said something about taking the farthest line of C-Tran that heads north, and then you pick up a bus from maybe . . . Centralia? Then Olympia, Tacoma and then connect into the Seattle system. I am really curious to know if it is possible, but not curious enough to actually figure it out.

Yes you can. This is the schedule of the buses that make it possible. C-TRAN goes up to Salmon Creek and from Tumwater you can take Intercity Transit to Olympia, then Pierce Transit to Tacoma and finally Sound Transit or Metro Transit to Seattle.

OK, but how do you get from the Salmon Creek to Tumwater? Salmon Creek is only at the I-5 and I-405 junction. I looked up Longview and Centralia and even Tacoma to see if a Magic Bus went down to Salmon Creek, but that route remains a mystery. There's a long and lonely stretch of uncharted I-5.

If you'll look at the schedules I linked to, you'll see a route from Longview to Salmon Creek and back, and another from Longview to Tumwater and back. Combining those will do it.

There's also this page that I found which has info and schedule combinations on how to get between many places.

Cool!
Your original comment was forwarded on an e-mail and I didn't realize it was a link. Bus legend is TRUTH - woohoo! OK, so have you actually made the journey?

Also, you can get to Eugene via Tri-Met, SMART, CAT, Cherriots, Albany Transit, Corvallis Transit, and finally Eugene's LTD.
